Dad's Silver Star

Above: This is a copy of the Silver Star citation awarded to Paul Thiner.  The Silver Star, is awarded to active duty service men/women for gallantry in action.  It is the 4th highest military citation awarded to combat members of the U.S Armed Forces; above it are the Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross, or the Air Force Cross.  All typos are original to this document.

Above:  This is a munitions record retrieved from the U.S. National Archives in Washington D.C.  It outlines the munitions scores of 6th Armored servicemen.

  • Any shooting score of 165-175 was considered within the sharp-shooter classification.
  • A score of 175-200 was considered an expert marksmen classification.

Paul Thiner rarely missed his mark, with a munitions record of 195, an expert marksmen, with top score in his company.
